Ciao Simone, bentornato su Parkett. A distanza di un anno torniamo a parlare di Vallinote, questa volta in occasione del party del 30 agosto in collaborazione con Trip Recordings. E’ piuttosto raro sentire artisti come Nina Kraviz in una città come Modica. Com’è nata questa connessione così unica?
Ciao Gaia, il nostro progetto è stato chiaro sin dall’inizio: volevamo portare nella Val di Noto qualcosa di unico, che non avesse precedenti. Da appassionati, fanatici, ma anche operatori del mondo della music industry, abbiamo colto al volo l’occasione di ospitare Nina con Trip Recordings, proprio qui, a casa nostra. Io e i miei colleghi lavoriamo in questo settore da oltre dieci anni, e sicuramente i contatti costruiti nel tempo ci hanno aiutato a rendere possibile tutto questo.
2. Vladimir Dubyshkin, Cerrot, U.r.trax e Nina Kraviz, madrina di Trip: qual è stato il feedback del pubblico alle sonorità della label russa?
Dal punto di vista del pubblico, direi che un buon 80% era già preparato: conoscevano bene il prodotto musicale, quindi per molti non si è trattato di una novità. Abbiamo avuto anche un pubblico molto variegato: persone arrivate dal Brasile, dagli Stati Uniti, dall’Australia e da diversi Paesi del Nord Europa. A completare la cornice c’erano i locals, compresi tanti arrivati dalla Sicilia occidentale.
3. Modica è stata al contempo sfondo e protagonista dell’evento grazie alla vista panoramica sulla città offerta dal Castello dei Conti. Qual è la visione artistica ed estetica che guida Vallinote?
Prima di tutto volevamo creare un ambiente intimo, in cui pubblico e artisti fossero sullo stesso livello: quando si parla di passione per la musica elettronica, non esistono distinzioni, neanche per chi sta sul palco. Abbiamo voluto mantenere il background che offriva Modica come parte dell’allestimento. La visione artistica ed estetica di Vallinote si adatta sempre al contesto: cerchiamo di valorizzare e dialogare con la location che ci ospita, mantenendo ciò che è già presente e integrandoci con esso.
4. La passione e le connessioni autentiche sono un fondamento prezioso per questo lavoro. Dietro Vallinote c’è una piccola o una grande squadra? Su cosa si basa il vostro equilibrio come team?
Dietro Vallinote ci sono molte persone accomunate dagli stessi valori: l’amore per la musica e la passione per ciò che facciamo. Siamo una squadra che si conosce da sempre e che si è sempre impegnata su più fronti per il progetto. C’è costante confronto tra di noi e una grande voglia di migliorarsi continuamente. Lavoriamo tutti insieme per un obiettivo comune: portare a casa nostra ciò che abbiamo sempre visto fuori, realizzarlo qui, e farlo divertendoci.
5. Quello della scena techno in Sicilia è un ecosistema complesso, sopratutto per i collettivi come Vallinote che si confrontano con un pubblico abituato ad altro e fedele ai pochi e grandi brand che reggono la clubculture dell’isola. Come sopravvivono le realtà come la vostra e come immagini la scena in Sicilia tra 10 anni?
Negli ultimi anni questo mondo è diventato molto complesso: i cachet sono sempre più alti e la sostenibilità, sia logistica che economica, è sempre più difficile da garantire. Tuttavia, noi vogliamo credere in una narrativa diversa: fare le cose principalmente per amore e passione.
Il nostro concept si basa sull’esplorazione, non solo musicale ma anche territoriale. Vogliamo essere itineranti, vivere nel cuore della Val di Noto, unendo musica e ospitalità. Ci piace far scoprire e far conoscere la nostra terra da un punto di vista diverso, usando la musica come collante principale. Personalmente, non so come sarà la scena tra dieci anni, ma sono convinto che qualsiasi progetto realizzato con amore avrà una lunga vita.
6. Iniziative come lo showcase di Trip Recordings al Castello dei Conti sono rare, non solo per l’assenza di menti creative disposte ad organizzare questi eventi o a causa di un pubblico incerto. Spesso, tutelare la storia e il territorio diventa un limite imposto dalle istituzioni locali. Qual è stata la vostra esperienza a riguardo e quali sono state le maggiori difficoltà con cui vi siete confrontati?
Per molto tempo la narrativa è stata sempre la stessa: qui certe cose non possono esistere. Tuttavia, nel nostro piccolo, vogliamo cambiare questa percezione. È stato fondamentale trovare un’amministrazione che ci ascoltasse e collaborasse attivamente con noi. Ci hanno supportato fin dall’inizio perché hanno capito che non si trattava solo di un evento danzante, ma di qualcosa di più ampio.
Come dicevo, il nostro pubblico è venuto da diverse parti del mondo, e questo ha generato un indotto lavorativo per la città su più fronti: dagli alberghi e B&B, ai ristoranti e ai trasporti. È stato un beneficio per tutti, equesti risultati sono un segnale positivo per la città. L’intrattenimento, in questo senso, è anche un’occasione per far scoprire la città a chi non l’aveva mai visitata.
7. Nina Kraviz non ha bisogno di presentazioni, con una carriera alle spalle di oltre 20 anni tra release iconiche e performance in tutto il mondo. Quali sono state le sue impressioni sul party?
Nina Kraviz, sin dal primo giorno, è stata entusiasta di scoprire le nostre zone. È stata molto felice sia dell’evento in sé sia di come è stato organizzato. Tutti gli artisti sono rimasti senza parole davanti alla nostra città, ammirandola da uno dei luoghi più iconici che Modica potesse offrire.
8. Quale traccia ti viene in mente se pensi al party del 30 agosto?
Una delle tracce che mi viene in mente pensando al 30 agosto è sicuramente “Plastic Machine – Elle S’Imagine”.
9. Cosa puoi anticiparci riguardo al futuro di Vallinote?
Noi del collettivo Vallinote siamo già al lavoro per l’anno prossimo: ci siamo subito messi alla ricerca di una nuova location mozzafiato da far scoprire ai prossimi ospiti. Sicuramente c’è la voglia di alzare l’asticella, e l’idea di organizzare un festival comincia a stuzzicarci seriamente.
10. Concludo ringraziandoti e chiedendoti come stai e come vanno i tuoi progetti personali
Per il resto sto bene. Ancora faccio fatica a credere a tutto quello che è successo il 30 agosto: l’energia, l’entusiasmo del pubblico e la riuscita dell’evento mi hanno lasciato con tanta adrenalina in corpo. È stata un’esperienza che conferma quanto lavorare con passione e dedizione possa dare risultati incredibili. Nel frattempo, continuo a portare avanti i miei.

Hi Simone, welcome back to Parkett. A year later, we’re back to talk about Vallinote, this time for the August 30th party in collaboration with Trip Recordings. It’s quite rare to hear artists like Nina Kraviz in a city like Modica. How did this unique connection come about?
Hi Gaia, our project was clear from the start: we wanted to bring something unique, unprecedented, to the Val di Noto. As enthusiasts, fanatics, and also music industry professionals, we jumped at the chance to host Nina with Trip Recordings, right here in our hometown. My colleagues and I have been working in this industry for over ten years, and the connections we’ve built over time have certainly helped make all this possible.
Vladimir Dubyshkin, Cerrot, U.r.trax and Nina Kraviz, godmother of Trip: what has been the public’s feedback to the Russian label’s sound?
From the audience’s perspective, I’d say a good 80% were already prepared: they were familiar with the music, so for many it wasn’t new. We also had a very diverse audience: people from Brazil, the United States, Australia, and several Northern European countries. Rounding out the crowd were the locals, including many from western Sicily.
Modica was both the backdrop and the protagonist of the event thanks to the panoramic view of the city offered by the Castello dei Conti. What is the artistic and aesthetic vision that guides Vallinote?
First and foremost, we wanted to create an intimate environment where audience and artists were on the same level: when it comes to passion for electronic music, there are no distinctions, not even for those on stage. We wanted to maintain the background that Modica offered as part of the staging. Vallinote’s artistic and aesthetic vision always adapts to the context: we try to enhance and engage with the location that hosts us, maintaining what is already there and integrating with it.
Passion and authentic connections are a precious foundation for this work. Is Vallinote a small or large team? What is the basis of your team’s balance?
Behind Vallinote are many people united by the same values: a love of music and a passion for what we do. We’re a team that’s known each other forever and has always been committed to the project on multiple fronts. There’s constant discussion among us and a strong desire to continually improve. We all work together towards a common goal: to bring home what we’ve always seen outside, to realize it here, and to have fun doing it.
The techno scene in Sicily is a complex ecosystem, especially for groups like Vallinote, which compete with an audience accustomed to something else and loyal to the few major brands that support the island’s club culture. How do groups like yours survive, and how do you imagine the Sicilian scene will evolve in 10 years?
In recent years, this world has become very complex: fees are ever higher, and sustainability, both logistical and financial, is increasingly difficult to ensure. However, we want to believe in a different narrative: doing things primarily out of love and passion.
Our concept is based on exploration, not only musical but also territorial. We want to be itinerant, living in the heart of the Val di Noto, combining music and hospitality. We like to help people discover and get to know our land from a different perspective, using music as the main glue. Personally, I don’t know what the scene will look like in ten years, but I’m convinced that any project created with love will have a long life.
Initiatives like the Trip Recordings showcase at Castello dei Conti are rare, not only because of the lack of creative minds willing to organize these events or because of an uncertain audience. Often, protecting history and the territory becomes a limitation imposed by local institutions. What has been your experience in this regard, and what were the biggest challenges you faced?
For a long time, the narrative has been the same: certain things can’t exist here. However, in our own small way, we want to change this perception. It was crucial to find an administration that listened to us and actively collaborated with us. They supported us from the beginning because they understood that it wasn’t just a dance event, but something broader.
As I said, our audience came from different parts of the world, and this generated employment for the city on multiple fronts: from hotels and B&Bs to restaurants and transportation. It was a benefit for everyone, and these results are a positive sign for the city. Entertainment, in this sense, is also an opportunity to introduce the city to those who had never visited it before.
Nina Kraviz needs no introduction, with a career spanning over 20 years, including iconic releases and performances around the world. What were your impressions of the party?
Nina Kraviz was thrilled to discover our region from day one. She was delighted with both the event itself and how it was organized. All the artists were left speechless by our city, admiring it from one of the most iconic locations Modica has to offer.
What track comes to mind when you think of the August 30th party?
One of the tracks that comes to mind when thinking about August 30th is definitely “Plastic Machine – Elle S’Imagine”.
What can you tell us about the future of Vallinote?
We at the Vallinote collective are already hard at work preparing for next year: we’ve immediately started searching for a breathtaking new location to share with our upcoming guests. We’re definitely keen to raise the bar, and the idea of organizing a festival is starting to seriously intrigue us.

Otherwise, I’m fine. I still can’t believe everything that happened on August 30th: the energy, the enthusiasm of the audience, and the success of the event left me with a rush of adrenaline. It was an experience that confirms how working with passion and dedication can yield incredible results. In the meantime, I continue to pursue my own.
