DARSY “COFFEE”
“Coffee,” the new electronic-pop release by DARSY, emerges as a sleek, meticulously crafted track born at the Eurovision Berlin Camp 2025. The song immediately positions itself within a polished dance-pop framework, using coffee and barista language as an extended metaphor for obsession and magnetic attraction. This conceptual foundation drives the track’s sonic and lyrical structure, shaping a release of remarkable quality—one we are pleased to host on our webzine.
From its opening seconds, “Coffee” leans into a rhythmic identity built on tight, propulsive patterns. The beat is anchored by crisp electronic percussion that operates with early-2000s pop efficiency while remaining firmly modern in its production choices. Its groove maintains a steady four-on-the-floor pulse, yet subtle syncopations in the hi-hats and auxiliary elements create an undercurrent of tension, mirroring the track’s narrative of craving and anticipation. The rhythmic layering reflects a deliberately engineered sense of movement, aligning the song with a club-ready momentum that enhances its dance-pop energy.
The synth design is equally central to the song’s aesthetic. “Coffee” blends glossy electronic textures with sharper, more pointed tones that cut through the mix at key emotional moments. The primary synth line carries a melodic fluidity reminiscent of early-2000s Britney-inspired pop, but it is modernised through updated sound-design techniques: bright, side-chained pads that swell with each kick; filtered leads that emerge and retract like waves of adrenaline; and digital sparkles that punctuate transitions. This interplay between nostalgia and forward-facing production allows the track to occupy a hybrid space—familiar enough to feel immediately catchy, yet refined enough to match current electronic-pop standards.
Atmospherically, “Coffee” balances sensuality and intensity. There is a persistent sense of heat driving the arrangement, cultivated through rising filter sweeps, escalating percussive fills, and moments where the instrumental drops back to spotlight the vocal. These dynamics function as emotional peaks and valleys, reinforcing the story of addictive desire. The production by Thilo Wehrmann embraces clarity and structure, ensuring that each element—from the rhythmic base to the synth flourishes—contributes to the song’s thematic coherence. The result is an atmosphere that feels simultaneously intimate and charged, echoing the physical and emotional rush suggested by the metaphor of caffeine.
Lyrically, the track uses the motif of coffee as a multi-layered symbol for obsession. Rather than relying on surface-level references, the writing employs barista language to articulate longing, routine, and the irresistible pull toward someone who becomes as essential as a morning fix. The metaphor remains consistent throughout, creating a narrative unity that blends seamlessly with the track’s sonic palette.
“Coffee” was written during the Berlin Song Fest 2025 at The House of Music by DARSY, Johannes Kieper, and Udo Mechels. This collaboration marks a new creative chapter for the artist, supported by a strong UK promotional rollout including BBC Radio support, global emerging-artist platforms, and a professional dance video built around dynamic choreography. This visual strategy is designed to translate the song’s addictive energy into movement, extending its aesthetic identity beyond the audio experience.
DARSY (Darina Markova), a Bulgarian-born and London-based singer-songwriter, performer, and BA (Hons) Musical Theatre student at the Cambridge School of Creative Industries, enters this release following significant milestones. In 2025 she debuted as a BBC Introducing artist, with her tracks catching the attention of BBC Radio 1 producers and appearing on major international playlists. Her involvement with the Recording Academy’s GRAMMY® U New York Chapter and the placement of two songs on the 2026 GRAMMY® ballot highlight her growing recognition.
Her background includes the debut EP “REPLAY” (2025), a coming-of-age collection premiered in London and later brought to Bulgaria, as well as her breakout single “Dopamine,” which secured strong chart and radio success across the UK and Bulgaria. As a triple-threat performer with experience in leading musical theatre roles, DARSY brings a trained sense of expression and performance to her pop output.
With “Coffee,” she channels this versatility into a focused electronic-pop offering defined by rhythmic precision, polished synth work, and a charged, immersive atmosphere. It stands as a high-quality release and an exciting addition to her expanding artistic trajectory—one we are pleased to spotlight on our platform.
