Chiudere un progetto artistico di successo per ricominciare con il proprio nome di battesimo è una scelta coraggiosa, specialmente quando hai passato anni a costruire un’identità forte e riconosciuta nei club più importanti del mondo. Gennaro Filisdeo aka Blackchild ha deciso di farlo, tornando ad essere semplicemente: GENNARO. Come un fulmine a ciel sereno che vede già un importante punto di svolta tramite l’uscita del nuovo singolo “Sabor” sull’etichetta Three Six Zero Recordings, oltre all’annuncio della sua prima residency ufficiale in una compagine storica come il Blue Marlin di Ibiza. Siamo riusciti ad intercettare ed intervistare l’artista ischitano, per farci raccontare i dettagli di questo nuovo capitolo e siamo lieti di presentare con lui la sua imminente uscita su TSZR.

Ciao Gennaro, bentornato su Parkett! Partiamo subito dal cambiamento più importante: la scelta di mettere da parte il nome Blackchild per presentarti semplicemente come “Gennaro”. Cosa ti ha spinto a fare questo passo proprio adesso e come si rifletterà questo ritorno alle origini sul tuo sound?

Ciao ragazzi! Sono sempre stato “Gennaro” per tutti, di fatto è il mio vero nome. Sentivo che il percorso di Blackchild era arrivato al termine e non poteva andare più in alto di dov’era. Ho sentito il bisogno di tornare alle origini, di riscoprire il Gennaro che ha iniziato a fare musica e per questo ho deciso di tornare nome di battesimo. Il sound rimarrà praticamente lo stesso, passando dalle sonorità jazz-housy di sempre a quelle minimal tech. Sempre con un pizzico di sperimentazione che ho sempre portato nel precedente progetto.

La vita in tour e i viaggi cambiano spesso la prospettiva di un produttore. Ora che ti muovi con questa nuova consapevolezza, da dove stai attingendo l’ispirazione per i tuoi prossimi lavori?

Seguirò il cuore come ho sempre fatto e mi lascerò influenzare dalle vibe che vivo quando sono in tour e in viaggio e dagli altri artisti che ascolto e scopro nel mio percorso.

Cambiare nome sui social e nelle line-up è sempre un rischio a livello di algoritmi e di percezione del pubblico. Com’è stata la reazione dei fan e dei colleghi quando hai dato l’annuncio?

Credo che la reazione sia stata buona. Alla fine la maggior parte dei miei fan già mi chiamava per nome, quindi secondo me questo cambio è stato solo un ulteriore passo accorciare le distanze con il mio pubblico.

Il 22 Maggio è in programma l’uscita di “Sabor” su TSZR. Già dal titolo si intuisce una direzione precisa e molto calda: ci racconti com’è nata questa traccia e quali influenze ci sono dentro?

“Sabor” è una traccia alla quale tengo moltissimo e alla quale ho dedicato veramente tanto tempo e passione. Ha influenze house, jazz e anche un po’ latine. L’idea è quella di seguire appunto il “sabor” della mia terra!

Quest’anno c’è un’altra grande novità a Ibiza: la tua prima residency con il format “NAIMA” al Blue Marlin. Come stai vivendo questo momento?

Naima Ibiza è un sogno che si realizza e farlo al Blue Marlin che è una delle location più fighe dell’isola è veramente una grande soddisfazione. Spero solo che sia il primo di tanti anni per questo progetto ad Ibiza. Capita nel momento giusto, in cui mi sento davvero come una fabbrica di idee e musica.

Following his massive success as Blackchild, the artist chooses to step into the spotlight under his real name. Gennaro caught up with us to talk about this turning point, the warmth of his new single “Sabor”, and his upcoming residency at Blue Marlin Ibiza.

Retiring a successful artistic project to start fresh under your given name is a bold move, especially after spending years building a strong, recognized identity across the world’s top clubs. Gennaro Filisdeo, formerly known as Blackchild, has decided to do just that, returning to being simply: GENNARO. A bolt from the blue, this new chapter already marks a major turning point with the release of his new single “Sabor” on Three Six Zero Recordings, alongside the announcement of his first official residency at an iconic venue like Blue Marlin Ibiza. We caught up with the Ischia-born artist to get all the details on this new chapter, and we are thrilled to bring you an exclusive premiere of his upcoming release on TSZR.

Hi Gennaro, welcome back to Parkett! Let’s start with the biggest change: the choice to shelve the Blackchild moniker and perform simply as “Gennaro”. What pushed you to take this step right now and how will this return to your roots reflect on your sound?

Hey guys! I’ve always been “GENNARO” to everyone; it’s my real name, after all. I felt that the Blackchild journey had run its course and couldn’t go any higher than it already was. I needed to go back to my roots, to rediscover the Gennaro who started making music in the first place, and that’s why I decided to go back to my given name. The sound will stay pretty much the same, moving from my signature jazz-housey vibes to minimal tech, always with that touch of experimentation I’ve always brought to the previous project.

Life on tour and traveling often change a producer’s perspective. Now that you’re moving forward with this new mindset, where are you drawing inspiration from for your upcoming work?

I’ll follow my heart like I always have, letting myself be influenced by the vibes I experience while touring and traveling or by the other artists I listen to and discover along the way.

Changing your name on social media and lineups is always a risk when it comes to algorithms and public perception. How did fans and fellow artists react when you made the announcement?

I think the reaction was good. In the end, most of my fans already called me by my name, so I feel this change was just another step toward closing the distance between me and my audience.

The release of “Sabor” on TSZR is scheduled for May 22nd. The title itself suggests a distinct, warm direction: can you tell us how this track came together and what influences are packed into it?

“Sabor” is a track that means a lot to me, and one I’ve dedicated a huge amount of time and passion to. It has house, jazz and even some Latin influences. The idea is exactly that: to capture the “sabor” (understood as flavor) of my homeland!

There’s another massive update this year in Ibiza: your first residency with the “NAIMA” format at Blue Marlin. How are you experiencing this moment?

Naima Ibiza is a dream come true, and doing it at Blue Marlin, which is one of the coolest locations on the island, is a massive satisfaction. I just hope it’s the first of many years for this project in Ibiza. It’s happening at the perfect time, a moment where I genuinely feel like a factory of ideas and music.
