Energy Whores – Invisible

2 Settembre 2026

Energy Whores approach Invisible less like a traditional EP than a study in emotional refraction. Built around one composition and presented through four different versions, the release avoids the usual logic of the remix package. Instead, each arrangement seems to ask what happens when the same feeling is placed under a different light. The result is indie pop with electronic instincts, intimate but broad enough to move between shades of melancholy.

The central idea is deceptively simple: being physically present while emotionally erased, standing among other people and somehow remaining unseen. Carrie Schoenfeld gives that sensation a melodic form that never becomes overly dramatic. Her vocal presence carries a quiet tension, and the lyrics gain strength precisely because the music does not constantly underline their meaning. There is room for uncertainty, for the space between loneliness and detachment.

Across the four interpretations, rhythm becomes one of the clearest tools for changing perspective. The Synth-Pop version has the most immediate pulse, giving Invisible a polished forward movement that makes the track accessible without losing its darker edges. Electronic drums and programming provide a firm framework, while bass and keyboards add controlled urgency. It feels most conscious of the outside world: sleek, rhythmic, slightly restless.

The Lo-Fi interpretation turns that energy inward. Its rhythmic language is less concerned with momentum and more interested in texture, allowing imperfections and haze to become part of the emotional vocabulary. The reduced character makes the song feel closer to a private thought than a statement. Synth textures and keyboards sit differently in this setting, creating an atmosphere where distance becomes almost tangible. The contrast is substantial, yet the melodic identity remains intact.

Then comes the Cinematic version, where atmosphere takes precedence. The arrangement expands the emotional geography of Invisible, using piano, synthesizers, layered textures and percussion to create a more spacious frame around Schoenfeld’s voice. It understands silence and suspension as compositional elements, not simply scale. Certain passages seem to hover before resolving, giving the feeling of watching a familiar scene from further away. The song becomes less about the sting of invisibility and more about its lasting echo.

The Indie version brings the composition back toward an organic edge. Electric guitar and bass introduce a physical quality that sits comfortably beside the electronic components, while the rhythm feels less programmed. This version comes closest to the songwriting underneath the production, showing that the melodic core can survive when the surrounding architecture changes. That resilience is a strength.

Grant (NYC), responsible for production, mixing and mastering, maintains a coherent identity across these worlds. The four tracks never feel like unrelated experiments, because the same emotional and melodic DNA resurfaces. Schoenfeld’s background as a classically trained pianist, songwriter and multidisciplinary artist is also apparent in the way melody and atmosphere are treated within the narrative.

Invisible ultimately works because it trusts repetition without becoming repetitive. Hearing the same song four times could easily expose a lack of ideas; here, it does the opposite. Each version reveals another contour, suggesting that invisibility has no single emotional soundtrack. Sometimes it is rhythmic and outward-facing, sometimes blurred and private, sometimes expansive, sometimes grounded.

For a project that calls its approach avant-electro, Energy Whores demonstrate a particularly effective balance between experimentation and melodic communication. Invisible is thoughtful without becoming austere, polished without feeling sterile, and emotionally direct without forcing a conclusion. It is a high-quality release we are genuinely pleased to host on our webzine, exploring how production can reshape meaning while leaving a song’s heart untouched.
