RedazioneL’etichetta olandese Dynamic Reflection compie dieci anni e festeggia, come vi avevamo anticipato qualche mese fa, con “Continuum”, una speciale serie di 5 EP firmata dai più grandi nomi della scena techno.
In occasione dell’uscita del terzo EP “Fluctus”, prevista per il 16 novembre, abbiamo avuto l’occasione di scambiare quattro chiacchiere con Paul Boex, fondatore dell’etichetta. Paul è anche una delle due anime di Abstract Division, la cui traccia “Dissonance” è parte di questa release.
Sempre da “Fluctus”, in esclusiva su Parkett, ascoltiamo “Les Planes” di Deepbass & Ness, che ci trasporta in paesaggi musicali rarefatti, ma al contempo pregni di sonorità potenti ed incisive.
Ciao Paul, Dynamic Reflection compie 10 anni e festeggia con l’uscita di una speciale serie di 5 EP, intitolata “”Continuum”. Alcuni degli artisti che hanno firmato questa uscita sono grandi nomi della scena techno, come Mulero, Dozzy e Mike Parker, ma ci sono anche artisti che hanno raggiunto la fama negli ultimi anni. Come hai visto la scena cambiare ed evolversi, in qualità di fondatore dell’etichetta?
Tutti gli artisti che hanno partecipato alla realizzazione di “Continuum” hanno contribuito a forgiare il suono di Dynamic Reflection negli ultimi 10 anni. Artisti come Dozzy, Mulero e Blawan sono sempre stati di grande ispirazione per me. I nostri resident Deepbass, Ness, Jeroen Search, Stefan Vincent sono diventati famiglia ed il resto degli artisti sono grandi amici. Si tratta di persone che rispetto, con cui condivido la stessa visione delle cose e una grande connessione. Questo è per me molto importante. Per quanto riguarda l’evoluzione della scena, credo si possa dire che, grazie a tutta la tecnologia che è stata sviluppata, è diventato più facile fare musica e condividerla con il resto del mondo. Dunque ci sono sempre più giovani talenti sulla scena: è pazzesco! E’ per questo che sono contento di aver iniziato la serie The Nursery.
Considerando il tuo ruolo come DJ e produttore, ma anche fondatore di Dynamic Reflections, pensi che una delle responsabilità delle label sia proprio quello di creare un ponte tra artisti affermati e nuovi nomi della scena, ad esempio con la giusta selezione di talenti o collaborazioni tra di loro?
Beh, credo che questo sia proprio l’obiettivo della nostra serie “The Nursery”. Nei vari anni abbiamo cercato di focalizzarci su un suono di qualità, che ora le persone riconoscono. Riceviamo riscontri molto positivi sulla serie e ne siamo orgogliosi. Il vinile è forse un prodotto più difficile: abbiamo provato molte volte, ma per giovani produttori è difficile arrivare a vendere almeno 300 copie, anche quando possono contare su remix di grandi artisti. Questo ci obbliga ad essere più attenti quando si parla di uscite in vinile per i nuovi nomi.
Come sono stati scelti i nomi degli EP? C’è un nesso tra di loro od un significato preciso?
E’ stato il nostro designer Zalan Szakacs a pensare ai nomi dei pianeti. L’idea di base era quella di esplorare il cosmo e la scienza, da cui nasce il concetto di un universo parallelo, in cui ogni EP rappresenta un diverso pianeta.

Marking its 10 year anniversary, Dutch label Dynamic Reflection releases “Continuum”, a collection of five uniquely intertwined EP’s, celebrating the label’s roots and its evolution and honouring its residents and friends.
With the upcoming release of the third EP, “Fluctus”, we had the opportunity of chatting with Paul Boex, founder of the label and one half of Abstract Division, whose track “Dissonance” is also part of this EP.
From “Fluctus”, out on the 16th November, Parkett premieres “Les Planes” by Deepbass and Ness, bringing us to magic soundscapes made of thin air, but as strong as powerful as the unique imprint of both artists.
Dynamic Reflection is turning 10 this year and celebrating with the release of a special series of 5 EPs. Some of the artists out on “Continuum” are established names (Mulero, Dozzy and Parker) but the majority actually gained international recognition in the last few years. How did you see the techno scene evolving in the last ten years, as label owner?
All artists appearing on the “Continuum” project are a reflection of what shaped the sound of Dynamic Reflection over the past 10 years. Guys like Dozzy, Mulero and Blawan have always been a massive inspiration for me. Our residents Deepbass, Ness, Jeroen Search, Stefan Vincent have become family and the rest just became very close friends. All are people that I respect a lot, whom I share the same vision with and I really have a personal connection with. This is very important for me. How did the scene evolve in the last ten years? I guess you can say it has become easier to make music with all the new technology that has been developed, but also much easier to share your music with the rest of the world. This has led to the fact that there are so many new young talented producers and artists out there. It’s crazy! That’s why I am very happy to having started The Nursery series.
Considering your role both as label owner and DJ and producer, do you think that labels can help create a bridge between established names and newcomers on the scene, for example with a consistent selection of artists or collaborations between them?
Well, I guess you can say that we already did that with The Nursery series. We established a certain quality stamp over the years, something that people know by now: music from those guys is at least worth checking out. We get very good feedback on the series and we are super happy with that. For vinyl, it’s difficult: we tried a couple of times, but for newcomers it’s very hard to sell at least 300 copies, even when they have remixes of bigger artists. So we have become a bit more careful with putting out vinyl releases from those artists.
How did you choose the names for each EP? Is there a link between them or a particular meaning?
Our designer Zalan Szakacs came up with the idea of the names of the planets. The idea behind the names of the EP’s was inspired by renaissance and their explorations into cosmos and science. Therefore we created this fictional universe, in which each EP represents a different planet.
