Efdemin approda per la prima volta su Dekmantel con “Mirror Phase “, il suo nuovo EP in uscita il 17 luglio. Il lavoro è composto da quattro tracce dirette, profonde e intrise di autentica sensibilità techno.

Phillip Sollmann, aka Efdemin, nel corso del tempo ha plasmaro un linguaggio tutto suo che si contraddistingue per essere caldo, emotivo e comunque perfetto per il dancefloor. Una visione della techno che guarda alla sua dimensione più spirituale, utilizzando una grande sperimentazione e profondità.

L’album “POLY” pubblicato lo scorso anno, evocava atmosfere più contemplative. Mentre “Mirror Phase” rappresenta un ritorno a un impatto più fisico e diretto. Quattro tracce pensate e nate da lunghe sessioni in studio basate principalmente su strumentazione analogica, accomunate da un forte legame con l’eredità Detroit-Berlino.

“Questo EP è un profondo inchino a quella tradizione,” racconta Sollmann. “Tutte le tracce richiamano le radici della mia idea di techno.”

Il tributo emerge già nella title track “Mirror Phase”, costruita attorno a un sample autorizzato della spoken intro di DJ Minx per l’ingresso di Kevin Saunderson nella storica serie “X-Mix” del 1997. Essa rappresenta una pubblicazione fondamentale nella formazione musicale di Efdemin.

Tra linee di synth sperimentali, sample manipolati e batterie 909 create con precisione, il disco sprigiona quella “machine soul” che continua a rappresentare il cuore più autentico della techno. Il risultato è un EP che risulta sia classico e che futuristico, sia fedele alla tradizione che perfettamente adattabile al panorama contemporaneo.

Ed è proprio in questo modo che Efdemin rinnova i suoni più autentici con una sua rivisitazione e sensibilità sonora, portandoci in territori nuovi, ma pur sempre familiari.

Efdemin Debuts on Dekmantel with “Mirror Phase”: A Tribute to the Detroit-Berlin Techno Tradition

Throughout his career, Sollmann has crafted a unique artistic language through the Efdemin project, balancing melodic warmth with sonic experimentation, and combining introspective depth with dancefloor functionality. His interpretation of techno remains deeply connected to the genre’s soulful roots while constantly pushing toward new textural and emotional territories.

Following the more contemplative atmospheres of last year’s album “POLY“, “Mirror Phase” marks a return to a sharper and more physical approach. The four tracks were created quickly through studio jams centered around analog hardware, all deeply informed by the Detroit-Berlin continuum that has shaped generations of electronic artists.

“This EP is a deep bow to that tradition,” Sollmann explains. “All four tracks reconnect with the roots of my idea of techno.”

That sense of homage is immediately evident in the title track “Mirror Phase”, which features an officially licensed sample of DJ Minx’s sensual spoken-word introduction for Kevin Saunderson’s appearance in the legendary “X-Mix” series from 1997, a release that played a pivotal role in Sollmann’s own journey into electronic music.

Driven by adventurous synth lines, manipulated samples and sharply sculpted 909 drum programming, the EP radiates the kind of “machine soul” that remains central to techno’s most authentic spirit. The result is a record that feels simultaneously classic and futuristic, deeply rooted in tradition while fully alive in the present.
