RedazioneEccoci con il terzo appuntamento di Notorious. Questa volta ospiteremo Lewis Fautzi, nome d’arte di Luis Gonçalves, un altro nastro nascente della musica techno/dark/elettronica. Luis è un dj produttore portoghese, classe 1991, un vero e proprio talento, che non ha perso tempo e ha già creato una label tutta sua, la Faut Section. Ma Luis ha stampato anche su altre prestigiose label, come Soma Records, Soniculture, Resopal Schallware, Labrynth, Slap Jaxx e Spark Musik. Noi l’abbiamo intervistato, e abbiamo voluto conoscerlo un po’ meglio.
Ciao Luis, benvenuto su Notorious. Tu vivi in Portogallo e sei molto impegnato con le tue produzioni, in un periodo nel quale la tua creatività è al massimo. Vorresti trasferirti altrove, per esempio in Germania, come stanno facendo molti produttori, per continuare questo lavoro?
Bene, uno dei miei obiettivi è di trasferirmi fuori dal Portogallo, in un Paese come la Germania o l’Inghilterra. Presto mi sentirò pronto a cogliere questa opportunità di cambiamento e partire.
Con quale musica sei cresciuto? Quali artisti ti hanno cresciuto e quali continui ad ascoltare ancora oggi?
Dunque, facevo parte di alcune rock band, prima di conoscere la musica elettronica, e non conoscevo assolutamente nulla dei Dj. Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach erano gli artisti che ascoltavo da piccolo.
Trascorri un sacco di tempo nel tuo studio, ce lo vuoi descrivere? Secondo te, quando è pronto uno studio per essere adatto a lavorarci?
Trascorro ogni mia giornata in studio e sembra un lavoro a tempo pieno, al 100%. Ogni giorno vado in studio per circa 8 ore, alcune volte capita di restare 10-12 ore. Recentemente ho rinnovato e migliorato il mio studio, ed ora mi sento di aver creato delle condizioni tali per compiere un lavoro migliore, ma prima di allora avevo una strumentazione essenziale. Se non andassi in giro e ovunque, e se non avessi niente da fare, prenderei le mie cuffie e inizierei nuovi progetti. Penso e posso dire che uno studio è sempre pronto per lavorare.
Tu sei giovanissimo e hai una label, la Faut Section, cosa significa per te? Quali sono le motivazioni che ti hanno spinto a creare una label?
Avere una propria etichetta è stato da sempre uno dei miei principali obiettivi e priorità. Voglio andare in ogni posto del mondo con la mia etichetta e portare con me i miei artisti. Adoro ascoltare la musica di altri artisti e scoprire novità. Quando creo delle tracce che mi piacciono molto, riesco a provare un piacevole sentimento e così mi sento di aver dato il mio contributo alla musica elettronica.
La tua musica ha un groove techno, scuro, profondo, molto ipnotico. C’è un tocco spirituale nella produzione e nella techno che sprigioni?
Sì, senza dubbi la mia musica è dark, ipnotica, industrial, deep. Ogni traccia è una storia e un viaggio, ma solo un buon ascoltatore lo potrà capire. Molto spesso, l’ispirazione per le mie tracce proviene da disastri naturali, eventi oscuri, come il Russian Radio UVB-76.

Hi Lewis, You live in Portugal and you are very busy with your productions in a period where your creativity is at its maximum. Would you like to move elsewhere (eg Germany), as many people in order to continue this job?
Yeah one of my goals is to move outside Portugal, for a country like Germany or UK. As soon as i I feel i´m ready and have the opportunity for it I’ll take the chance and go.
What music did you grow up listening to? What music artists did you grow up on and continue to listen to today?
Well I was into rock bands before I knew what was electronic music, I didn´t knew anything about Dj´s at all. Marilyn Manson, Rammstein , Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach were the artists I used to listen when I was a kid. Nowadays I just explore all kinds of techno and electronic music and I only listen to it nothing else.
You spend a lot time in your studio, would you like to describe it? When is a studio “ready” to work in it?
I spend all my days in the studio and I look at this as my 100% full time job. Everyday I go to the studio for 8 hours more or less, sometimes I stay 10-12 hours there. I recently improved and upgraded my studio and now I feel I have better conditions for making a better work but before that I had a really simple setup. If I go anywhere and I don´t have nothing to do I pick my headphones and I start new projects so I think I can say that for me a studio is always ready to work on it.
You are young and have a label, Faut Section, what does it mean for you? What are the reasons that motivated you to make this decision to give life to a label? What do really motivates you at this decision, to create a label?
Having my own label was always one of my main goals and priorities, I want to go worldwide with it and take my artists with me. I love to hear to other artists music and discover new things. When I get tracks that I really like it´s such a good feeling and I feel i´m giving my contribution to electronic music.
Your music pushes us to groove techno, dark, deep, very hypnotic. Is there a spiritual touch in your production and in the techno that gives off?
Yes , with no doubt my music is dark, hypnotic, industrial, deep. Each track is a story and a journey but only a good listener will understand it. Inspiration for my tracks are many times coming from natural disasters, obscure events, as the Russian Radio UVB-76.
