ENGLISH VERSION

Diego Angelico Escobar, aka Concret, presents his EP ” La Llorona” on Rebellion, sister label of the well-known Crosstown Rebels’.

Concret is the musical project of Diego Angelico Escobar, an Italian-Mexican artist and DJ based between Mexico City and New York. His music has been released on several international labels, among them: Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant, Motordiscs, Toy Tonics and Watergate Records. A well-established artist, his career continues to embrace music, sound design and installation art, demonstrating a great creative flexibility.

“La Llorona is an antique Mexican tale that finds its roots in the pre-hispanic legend of Chokani, in Nahuatl language. Together with Carlito Dalceggio writing the poem and painting the visual imaginary of the modern
Llorona, we tried to give a new identity to the legend behind the story. We finally found its voice with the spoken interpretation of the poem by the great Golshifteh Farahani.” – Concret

A cadenced, soft rhythm – child of the minimal house school – flows into South American and European sounds (especially those of the East), where whispered vocals, melodic unpredictability and mood swings generate an “earthy,” almost animalistic, yet at the same time transcendent flow. The track lasts seven minutes and maintains a restlessness throughout, meandering between feelings of spirituality, ritualism and musical awakening.

Diego Angelico Escobar thus makes his debut on Rebellion, “provoking” the current electronic scene through sought-after non-contemporary sounds, generated and modulated not to engage the masses but to shake the body and evoke distant memories that can excite the soul.
