Shlomi Aber, Dj e produttore spagnolo ci ha parlato delle sue influenze musicali e del suo progetto legato all’etichetta BE AS ONE. Il disco, composto da dieci tracce, è una sorta di viaggio tra la Dub e la Techno con punte ipnotiche.
Vi presentiamo anche “Mod3333”, una delle tracce di “Linear Equation” che vi facciamo ascoltare in anteprima.

Quando ascoltiamo le tue produzioni, a partire dalle tue prime release, riusciamo a sentire la tua reinterpretazione di techno, acid e dub. Il tuo percorso che trova le sue origini mondo del jazz, funk e altri generi affini, possono individuare in un qualche modo l’origine delle tue influenze e stile? Ci sono artisti in particolare che porti dentro?
“Mi sono immerso nel mondo della musica elettronica in una fase molto precoce della mia vita, già in tenera età 11-12 direi, ed ho avuto modo di formare molto della mia influenza già da allora: techno, jazz, hip hop e tutto il resto, sono stati tutti generi che posso mettere allo stesso piano senza porre sul piedistallo qualcosa in particolare. Sicuramente in particolare ci sono state delle importanti influenze che ho preferito nel corso del tempo, rispetto certi movimenti europei, e che ho approfondito, come la Techno di Detroit, Jeff Mills in particolare come modello come DJ, Francois K o Derrick May.”
Hai avuto modo di collaborare con con OVUM, R&S, NONPLUS e ora con BE AS ONE. Quali sono i migliori momenti che ricordi di queste collaborazioni?
“Ho avuto il piacere di lavorare con alcune delle etichette più prestigiose, tuttavia, dal momento che BE AS ONE è la mia etichetta, mi fa sentire speciale per me creare per la mia casa discografica, lo sento sicuramente come un qualcosa di più personale e più coinvolgente, sotto ogni aspetto della release. Non è una cosa così scontata mentre pubblichi con altre etichette, anche se ho imparato nel tempo a condividere c coltivare il lavoro assieme ad altri.”
C’è un artista, o magari una serie di artisti, che ti piacciono a tal punto da poterli identificare e considerare parte della tua formazione come produttore e artista?
“Mi piace la musica in generale, può essere qualsiasi cosa purché sia buona e abbastanza interessante, non sono mai stato un purista di un genere; non ho mai pensato di vincolarmi ad un solo genere per facilitarmi. Continuo ad essere influenzato, quotidianamente, in quanto può essere da film, musica o semplicemente dalla vita stessa imparando ogni giorno.”
Ogni artista trova un suo personale metodo di ricerca musicale. Cosa cerchi quando sei alla ricerca e come ti senti quando t’indirizzi verso la produzione? Hai in mente dei re-work o remix che potrebbero interessarti da altri?
“Settimanalmente compro ancora vinili, normalmente da tre o quattro diversi negozi online, purtroppo non ho troppo tempo per andare nei negozi fisici. Però quando sono a Berlino, ad Amsterdam, o negli Stati Uniti, non mi faccio mancare mai il tempo e l’opportunità di fare ricerca, guardare tra le e-mail e le demo delle etichette, da cui ottengo la maggior parte delle idee. Quando sono in studio m’immetto in un flusso, non mi limito ad un genere, approccio o determinato arrangiamento, ma dato che sono prima un dj, prima che produttore, la mia musica si orienta sempre più verso la dance-floor… cosa posso dire, non posso farci niente :).”
In uscita troviamo il tuo terzo LP “Linear Equation”. Quali sono i prossimi appuntamenti? Ci sono new o anticipazioni che puoi darci?
“Il mio terzo album, “Linear Equation”, sta uscendo in questi giorni come hai menzionato e ne sono molto davvero entusiasta, sono molto curioso di sapere come verrà percepito, in quanto so che non è un lavoro così “facile”. L’unico obiettivo durante la produzione dell’album è stato innanzitutto quello di soddisfare me stesso…il resto sta a seguire, e personalmente sono molto contento del risultato finale; per il resto ci sono diversi progetti interessanti in arrivo, ma una cosa alla volta.”

In these days we’ve had the opportunity to exchange two words with Shlomi Aber about his new work “Linear Equation”.
Shlomi Aber, Spanish DJ and producer, told us something about his musical influences and his project linked to the BE AS ONE label. The record, composed of ten tracks, is a kind of journey between Dub and Techno with Hypnotic tips. Here we present you in addition to the interview, “Mod3333“.
When we listen your production, starting from your first releases, we can feel your reinterpretation of Techno, Acid and Dub, and of course your origins that comes from the world of jazz, funk and other styles. Which are the major influences of your style, artists or movements that you keep inside?
“I dived into electronic music in a very early stage of my life, around the age of 11-12 i would say , I pretty much sucked my influence from everything around me those days, house , techno, jazz, hip hop and everything in between , I honestly can’t point out one main influence in particular, but I always like in particular the American / Detroit take on techno rather the European techno of that time, Djs as Jeff mills, mad mike, Francois K and Derrick May were my real “go to” Djs as a young musician”
You’ve collaborated with Ovum, Cocoon, R&S, Nonplus and now with Be As One. Wich are the best moment of these collaborations that you remind?
“I had the pleasure to work with some of the most prestigious labels out there, however since BE AS ONE is my own label it’s always feeling special for me to do for my own “house”, it’s more personal and I’m more involved in the actually releasing process inc the artwork, concept and others… which it’s not always possible when releasing on other labels , however I learned a lot and actually still learning from working with other labels, sharing minds with some of those labels helping allot for artists development.”
Does exists an artist or a series of artists that you like so much that you can identify them as strong influences of your formation as producer and artist?
“I like music in general, it can be anything as long as it’s good and interesting enough, never been a one gener purist, I think it’s very nero minding to dedicate yourself for certain type of music just to stay “Cool”. I keep getting influenced on a daily basis, can be from movies, music or just life… I grew and learn every day.”
Today every artist has its personal method of musical research. What does Shlomi Aber search and how does he feel when he approc and produces music? After these work you’ve also in mind re-reinterpretations or remixes coming from other artists?
“I’m still buying vinyls weekly, normally between three or four different online shops, I don’t have too much time to go to physical stores unfortunately but when I’m in Berlin, Amsterdam to United States I never miss the opportunity for some digging, together with promo emails and the label demos thats where get the majority of the music I’m playing . When in the studio I really just going with the flow, I don’t limiting myself for a certain type of work or arrangements , but since I’m firstly a Dj, then a producer, my music is mainly dance-floor oriented…what can I say, happens :).”
Now you’re next to publishing the new and third release, wich are the up-coming appointments? Have you news to give us?
“My 3’rd album, “Linear Equation” is releasing these days as you mentioned and I’m very excited about it, I’m very curios how it will be perceived as it’s definitely not a shelf product and will not be easy to digest . The only focus while producing the album was firstly to satisfied myself… the rest will follow, and personally I’m very happy with the final result, next there are few exciting projects coming up but one thing at the time.”
